As of 2015, Ventura Foods LLC owns the LouAna brand of coconut oil, which is more than a century old. Ventura Foods acquired the brand in a 1994 merger between Wilsey Foods and Holsum Foods, the company that owned the LouAna brand at that time.
Cajun settlers started LouAna Foods cooking oil processing company in 1894 in Opelousas, Louisiana. In 2015, LouAna is the largest independent cooking oil refinery and the leading processor of peanut oil in the United States. As the brand's core market involves products native to the South, other LouAna products include canola, cottonseed, sunflower and soybean oils.
