As of 2014, 140,000 of the 211,000 vehicles used to deliver mail in the United States were made by the Northrop Grumman Corporation. The truck model is known as the Grumman Long Life Vehicle. The Ford Motor Company manufactures mail delivery vans used in Canada.
Grumman LLVs were manufactured from 1987 to 1994. Prior to that time, Jeep made the delivery trucks. Grumman LLVs were designed to last for 24 years, three times as long as their predecessors. The United States Postal Service spent $524 million for vehicle repairs in 2009, and in 2011 estimated the cost to replace 180,000 delivery trucks at $6 billion.
