The most common symptoms experienced by children with brittle bone disease, known as osteogenesis imperfecta, are bone deformities, multiple broken bones, loose joints and weak teeth, states Healthline. Other symptoms include abnormal outward or lateral curves of the spine, bowed arms and legs, and heart defects.

Broken bones resulting from little or no trauma are often the first indication that an infant or child may have brittle bone disease, explains the Osteogenesis Imperfecta Foundation. Babies with moderate to severe forms of the condition are often born with broken bones, while children with milder brittle bone disease may experience their first break as a result of normal activity such as a fall when they begin standing and walking.
