Symptoms of eczema in children include itching, redness and scaly looking rashes, states the American College of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology. The itching associated with eczema can be severe and often appears on the arms, legs, face, and hands.
Approximately 37 percent of young children with eczema also have food allergies, according to the American College of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology. Eczema is not contagious, but severe scratching can lead to infection. Babies with eczema often rub against bedding or other items to provide itch relief. Children who have a family history of allergic disease are at a higher risk for developing eczema.
