The "Great River" in southern Africa is the Zambezi River. It is the longest southern African river and the fourth largest in the African continent, traversing eight countries from the river's source to its delta.
The Zambezi River forms part of southern Africa's important watersheds. Various tributaries feed the waters of this vast river system.
The Zambezi River rises in Zambia and it flows through Angola, Botswana, Namibia, Malawi, Zimbabwe and Tanzania, before emptying its contents into the Indian Ocean in Mozambique. It is fed by the Luwangwa, Kafue and Shire rivers. Other major rivers in the southern region of Africa include the Limpopo River and the Orange River.
