How do you make a headboard?

To make a headboard, first choose a style, then find or create a plan and follow the directions to complete the project. Headboards can be made from a variety of materials, including wood, fabric, cardboard and many other materials.

To build a padded headboard:

Step 1: Collect the materials.

Materials include:

• Wood
• Fabric
• Screws
• Staples
• Brads
• Foam

Step 2: Cut the frame.

Measure the bed size and cut the desired-size frame.

Step 3: Attach the ledgers.

Create square ledgers and place flush on the frame. Nail every 6 inches.

Step 4: Cut the four beams.

Make 45-degree angle mitered cuts along the four beams.

Step 5: Attach the pieces.

Glue and nail all of the pieces together.

Step 6: Treat the wood.

Stain or paint the wood the desired color. Allow to dry completely over night before proceeding.

Step 7: Cut a piece of plywood.

Cut a separate piece of plywood to fit inside the frame.

Step 8: Attach the foam.

Attach the foam to the plywood with a spray adhesive. Press down firmly to attach. Cut the remaining foam away so it is flush with the plywood.

Step 9: Attach the fabric.

Lay the fabric over the foam, leaving an overhang. Press smooth and staple the fabric to the back of the plywood.

Step 10: Attach the frame to the fabric section.

Place the fabric and plywood section inside the frame and attach it by countersinking through the frame ledger.
