Make a lighthouse craft by gluing paper cylinders and cups together and embellishing them with construction paper. This only takes 30 minutes in addition to the time it takes for the paint to dry. You need a small paper cup, a medium paper cup, a cylinder, construction paper, a pencil, a ruler, two rubber bands, scissors, a paintbrush and acrylic paint.
- Paint the cups
Paint a small 3-ounce paper cup and a medium 9-ounce paper cup using the paintbrush and white acrylic paint. Place them on a flat surface to dry.
- Prepare the cylinder
While the cups dry, acquire a paper cylinder, such as an old bread crumb container. Cut a piece of white construction paper so that it fits around the cylinder. Glue the paper in place, and secure with rubber bands while the glue dries.
- Assemble the lighthouse
Turn the cylinder upside down and place the 9-ounce paper cup upside down on top of the bottom of the cylinder. Repeat this process with the 3-ounce paper cup on the larger cup. Glue the cups in place.
- Add the pleats
Cut two strips of gray construction paper. The first strip needs to be 1 3/4 inches by 15 1/2 inches. The second strip needs to be 3/4 inch by 11 1/2 inches. Pleat the two strips. Glue the larger strip to the seam between the cylinder and the medium cup. Glue the smaller pleat to the seam between the medium and small cup.
- Make the top of the lighthouse
Cut a small circle from the red construction paper, making sure that the diameter of the circle is wider than the diameter of the bottom of the small cup. Cut a slit in the circle, overlap the sides and glue them closed. Glue the small cone on top of the lighthouse.
- Add doors and windows
Cut various door and window shapes out of black construction paper. Glue the shapes onto the lighthouse.
