To make loose curls in long, straight hair, wrap sections of hair around a large barrel curling iron, curling wand or straightening iron. Hot rollers or braids can also create large curls.
To create loose curls or waves using a curling iron, curling wand or straightening iron, use the following steps.
- Prepare the hair
- Curl a section of hair
- Curl the rest of the hair
- Spray the curls
- Brush out curls
Wash and dry the hair. Spritz the hair with a heat protection spray to keep hair from getting dry and damaged. Clip the hair on top of the head.
Take a small section of hair out of the clip. Wrap it around the barrel of a 1.5-inch curling iron or wand, or wrap it around a straightening iron. Curl the hair away from the face. Let the hair heat up for 15 to 20 seconds, then release it from the barrel.
Take another section of hair and curl it using the same method as the first section. Repeat until all of the hair is curled.
Spritz the curls with some hairspray to create some extra hold.
Gently brush out the curls to create a loose, wavy effect.
To create curls using hot rollers, roll up sections of hair in hot rollers and let them set. To create curls with braids, braid wet hair into two large regular or French braids. Let the hair dry overnight.
