To make a liquid lawn fertilizer at home, combine ammonia, soda, beer, mouthwash and dish soap. It should only take a few minutes to make and roughly one hour to apply depending on the size of the lawn.
- Mix the ingredients properly
In a large bowl, combine one full bottle of beer, one can of soda, 1/2 cup of mouthwash, 1/2 cup of ammonia and 1/2 cup of dish soap. Do not use antibacterial soap. If you are fertilizing a new lawn, enhance the potassium levels by adding 1/2 cup of concentrated sea minerals. This fertilizer increases the amount of nitrogen and nitrates while also acting as a natural pesticide.
- Apply the fertilizer
Fill a hose applicator with the fertilizer, and attach it to the hose. Cover the lawn evenly with the solution, applying it using a side-to-side motion. The fertilizer must be diluted through the hose to prevent chemical burns. Another way to apply fertilizer is to use a sprinkler system that has a storage tank for fertilizer use. Follow the manufacturer's directions when using this option.
- Fertilize as needed
In Northern areas, apply the fertilizer during the fall. Otherwise fertilize the lawn before the rainy season begins for best results.
