A plaster patch can be created by filling a hole with plaster patching compound, covering the compound with joint tape and blending a thin coat of compound over the wall. This job requires plaster patching compound, joint tape, a utility knife, a putty knife and sandpaper. It takes 48 hours.
- Remove the damaged plaster
Cut around the damaged or peeling plaster with a utility knife. Remove the damaged area. Use sandpaper to smooth any rough edges, wiping away the dust with a damp rag.
- Mix the plaster patching compound
Follow the manufacturer's instructions for mixing the plaster compound. Slowly add water to the compound until it achieves the desired consistency.
- Apply the patch
Using a putty knife, push the plaster compound into the hole. Continue until the hole is filled. Place joint tape over the hole, and cover the tape with a small amount of the plaster compound. Blend the edges into the surrounding wall. Allow the plaster patch to dry for 24 hours.
- Apply a second coat
Apply a second coat of the plaster compound over the initial coat. Extend the edges 1/2 inch beyond the first coat, smoothing them into the wall. Allow this second coat to dry overnight before sanding and painting the wall.
