How do you make a saline solution?

Saline solutions are sterile solutions of salt and water that are easy to create. To make a saline solution, place 1 cup of water and 1/2 teaspoon of table salt into a sauce pot. Boil the water for 15 minutes, and allow it to cool completely before storing the solution in a sterile jar.

1. Combine the water and salt

   First, combine 1 cup of water and 1/2 teaspoon of table salt in a sauce pot.

2. Boil the water

   Next, cover the sauce pot, and bring the water to a boil. Once it begins to boil, allow the water to boil for exactly 15 minutes before removing it from the heat.

3. Cool and store

   Allow the solution to cool completely to room temperature, and pour the solution into a sterile jar or a bottle. Cover the jar or bottle with its lid, and keep it for up to 24 hours.
