How do you make a Shirley Temple?

To make one serving of a classic Shirley Temple cocktail, you need 3 ounces each of lemon-lime soda and ginger ale, a dash of grenadine and a maraschino cherry. Put ice cubes into a Collins glass, and then pour in the two sodas.
Add a dash of grenadine into the glass, and stir. Garnish the drink with a cherry. A variation of the Shirley Temple uses only ginger ale instead of the soda combination.
The popular belief is that the drink originated at Chasen's in Beverly Hills. Historically, the restaurant has been popular with the entertainment industry. A bartender there created the sweet drink for the young Shirley Temple in the late 1930's.
