To ensure that your suitcase is within the sizes required for airline travel, first check the airline’s website to see its policies regarding baggage. Each airline is likely to have slightly different rules.

After checking with the airline, measure any bags you own or plan to buy to check if they are within the specified sizes. Many of the suitcases that are sold as carry-on bags are larger than those the airlines accept. Generally, most carriers allow a bag up with 45 inches in total including wheels and handles. Use a tape measure to get the dimensions of the bag. Take note of the length, width and height, and compare them to the airline’s requirements.
