What is a male to female cable?

A male to female cable is a conversion or extension cable. It is a pronged cable with solid pins for a center conductor at one end, and a center conductor with a socket in it at the other end, to allow the pronged end and pins to fit.

The pronged end of the cable is referred to as the male connector or the plug, while the end with the socket is known as the female connector or the jack. Male to female cables are used as conversion cables from male to female and vice versa. They are also used as extension cables, to extend the length of wired router antennae.
