Frigidaire/Electrolux manufactures Tappan microwave ovens. Tappan was first acquired by Frigidaire, which then became part of Electrolux in 1979. Tappan is known for producing the first consumer home microwaves in 1955.

W.J. Tappan, a manufacturer of cast iron stoves, founded Tappan in 1881 as the Ohio Valley Company. In the 1920s, to avoid confusion with a rival company, the Ohio Valley Company was renamed to Tappan Stove Company. In the 1930s, Tappan became known for their innovative stove and oven designs. In 1955, Tappan introduced the first microwave oven for home use. This microwave was 24 inches wide and cost $1,200.
