How many babies do rabbits have in one litter?

Rabbits can have anywhere from one to 14 babies, also called kits, in one litter. An average litter size is six. Hereditary and environmental factors play a role in the number of kits born in a litter.
The standard gestation period for rabbits is 28 to 31 days long. Due to the short gestation period, female rabbits can become pregnant and give birth once per month if constantly with a male. It is not uncommon for young rabbits to begin reproducing at only 6 months of age. Unless an owner is breeding rabbits for the purpose of resale, rabbits should be spayed or neutered.
