How many beads are there on a rosary?

The Catholic rosary consists of a crucifix, a short set of five beads, a rosary center and a loop of five sets of 10 beads each. The purpose of the rosary is to help Catholics say the Rosary prayers.

When praying the Rosary, Catholics start with the Our Father prayer, then 10 Hail Marys, a Gloris Patri, the Apostle's Creed and the Salve Regina. These prayers are completed with a meditation on the Mysteries. The Rosary prayer is thought to go back to Saint Dominic. Catholic rosary beads are made from glass, rose quartz stone, black onyx, amethyst or pearl.
