How many DeLoreans were made?

It is impossible to know exactly how many DeLorean cars were built, as the company did not retain any records after its bankruptcy in 1982. The most common estimate is that about 9,000 were built.

The DeLorean Motor Company only produced one model of car, the DeLorean DMC-12, which was made famous by the first "Back To The Future" movie. Production began in January 1981, and the last DMC-12 was manufactured in December 1982. There are three model years spanning 1981 to 1983. As of February 2015, 6,500 cars are estimated to be intact out of the roughly 9,000 that were built.
