How many eggs do canaries lay?

A canary hen will typically lay between three and five eggs, laying one egg each day until she has laid her full clutch. After the three, four or five eggs have been laid, it will take about 13 days for the eggs to hatch.

Canary hens that are about to lay eggs may appear with a swollen abdomen; at this point, their food can be supplemented with extra calcium to ensure the eggs' health. Some of the eggs in the clutch may be infertile and may not hatch, though these are often left in the nest to assist the hatchlings in supporting themselves.
