There are 10 official federal holidays in a year. The federal holidays are New Year's Day, Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday, President's Day and Independence Day. During the final months of the year come Columbus Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas.
Federal holidays are those days given as paid holidays to federal employees. Most government offices and many private businesses are closed on these days, and anyone wishing to visit one of those offices should ascertain if it's open first. If a federal holiday falls on a weekend, the date observing the holiday may be changed. Celebrations not considered federal holidays include Christmas Eve, New Year's Eve, Valentine's Day, Halloween and Easter.
