Gatun Lake is a manmade lake in Panama that has an 85-foot elevation above sea level. It was the largest artificial lake in the world back in 1913.

Gatun Lake occupies the former wooded turfs of the Chagres River Valley in the province of Colon, Panama. It encompasses a total area of 163 square miles, forming an abutment with the Gatum Dam. The lake plays an important role in the navigation of the Panama Canal. It provides the necessary amount of water to make the canal passable for ships. Gatun Lake is also considered one of the most popular tourist spots in the country.
