The Canadian Institute for Health Information reports 308 operational MRI scanners in Canada by the beginning of 2012. Seventy-nine percent of these were in hospitals, and the remainder were in free-standing clinics.
Wikipedia reports a 2004 study indicating that Canada had 4.6 MRI scanners per million population. Records from The World Bank indicate 32 million residents in 2004, totalling about 147 scanners. As Wikipedia states, the total number increased to 266 MRI scanners by 2009. The Canadian Institute for Health Information reports that there were 293 operational machines by 2011. In 2011 to 2012, 49 out of every 1,000 Canadians had MRI scans.
