How many ribs do pigs have?

Depending on the breed, a pig can have anywhere from 14 to 16 ribs. Longer breeds of pigs contain more pork meat than shorter breeds.

Over the years, the pig's anatomy has changed due to humans mating different breeds together. In the past, pigs were shorter than they are now. However, despite all the changes due to breeding practices, pig anatomy is still very similar to human anatomy.

Pig farmers attempt to breed pigs that are less likely to obtain serious diseases. Researchers, on the other hand, want the pigs who are predisposed to the same diseases that humans get so they can learn how to treat and prevent them.
