"NYPD Blue" aired on ABC for 12 seasons, from 1993 to 2005. Created by Steven Bochco and David Milch, "NYPD Blue" centered around the issues of a fictional police precinct in Manhattan.

"NYPD Blue" starred Dennis Franz, Gordon Clapp, Kim Delaney, Jimmy Smits and Sharon Lawrence. The controversial show met both negativity and praise for its gritty realism and nudity. The show caused the Parents Television Council to file formal complaints to the Federal Communications Commission over the use of obscene language and violence. The FCC fined ABC $1.4 million in 2003 but lost after an appeal by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit in 2011.
