The Kansas State Legislature includes 40 state senators, one for each district, as of 2015. The senators are members of the Kansas State Senate, which is the upper house of the Kansas Legislature.

The senators in the Kansas State Senate are elected for 4-year terms and do not have term limits. The main role of the Kansas State Legislature is to pass bills. The 40 senators work with the 125 state representatives of the lower house to discuss and vote for or against the passing of bills. The legislature generally meets once a year in January for a 90-day session. Special legislative sessions may be called by the Governor of Kansas.
