Franklin Delano Roosevelt was elected to four terms as president of the United States and died while serving his last term. He is the only U.S. president to have served more than two terms.

Roosevelt was elected to his first term in 1932 and is regarded as one of the country's most revered and influential presidents, having implemented legislation that helped extract the country from the Great Depression. Roosevelt died in office in April 1945 after succumbing to a stroke while vacationing in Warm Springs, Georgia. After his death, Congress passed the 22nd Amendment in 1951, prohibiting future presidents from serving more than two terms.
