Palladium is named for the asteroid Pallas, which was named for the Greek goddess of wisdom. The element was discovered in 1803 by William Hyde Wollaston. It is most often found among deposits of other metals such as platinum, nickel and gold. It is a solid element at room temperature, with an atomic weight of 106 and atomic number of 46.
