By Forinfos - 05/12/2025 - 0 comments
Chile has approximately 2,000 volcanoes, 41 of which are considered historically active volcanoes. The country has the largest number of active volcanoes in South America and the fifth largest in the world.
Chile has a high number of active volcanoes due to its location on the Peru-Chile Trench. The Nazca and Antarctic Plates in this region have been driven beneath the South American Plate, causing volcanic activity. Chile's volcanoes have had a strong influence on the country's landscape, society and economy. As of May 2015, the volcanoes with the most eruptions in Chile are Llaima with eight, Villaricca with six and Antuco with four.
