How many volcanoes are in Japan?

Japan is home to more than 100 volcanoes and contains almost 10 percent of all volcanoes in the world. Most of these are part of the Pacific Ring of Fire.
Japan is located between the North American, Philippine, Eurasian and Pacific tectonic plates. While volcanoes are located all over Japan, most of its active ones are found along its eastern side. These volcanoes follow the trench where the Pacific Plate goes beneath the North American plate, which is called the Izu-Bonin-Mariana arc.
Japan's location increases the risk of other natural disasters that are the result of tectonic activity, like earthquakes.
