Sam Elliott is married to actress and writer Katharine Juliet Ross. The couple was married on May 1, 1984, and they have one daughter named Cleo Rose Elliott.

Katharine and Sam first starred in "Butch Cassidy and the Sunance Kid" in 1969 but did not actually meet until they filmed "The Legacy" in 1978. Prior to her marriage with Sam, Katharine had been married to four other spouses.

In 1991, the couple worked together to adapt the novel "Conagher" for television. "Conagher" is a Western tale that effectively shows both actors' talents. As of 2015, Elliott and Katharine live on their ranchito in Malibu.
