Matthew Pavlich doesn't reveal whether or not he plans to retire in his autobiography "Purple Heart." He referred to two players on the team as ex-teammates in the book, which multiple newspapers considered as a hint towards his retirement. However, he later signed a one-year extension with his team.
Pavlich released his autobiography in October 2015 after his 16th season in the Australian Football League. He stated that the book's release wasn't a hint towards his retirement plans. In the book, he calls Aaron Sandilands and Luke McPharlin his ex-teammates. McPharlin retired from the team, but he did so after the book was written. Sandilands was still with the team as of the book's release.
