A person who is emo is a fan of emotional rock music, is extremely sensitive, exhibits signs of angst and alters his appearance to match that of emo music artists. The term "emo" originally referred to a genre of rock music marked by expressive or confessional lyrics.

Dyed black hair, tight jeans and dark nails and makeup are the most notable trends of emo style. Emo extends beyond fashion. Those people who participate in this lifestyle consider themselves to be sensitive, shy and introverted. People who consider themselves emo generally struggle with dealing with their emotions in a healthy manner.
