What measurements do I need to take before buying a new lamp shade for my wall lamp?

Before purchasing a new lamp shade for a wall lamp, measure the top and bottom diameters, the vertical slant and vertical height of the old shade. Note whether the lamp has an uno, clip-on or spider-with-harp fitting to ensure the new shade is compatible with the base, advises Lamps Plus.
The lamp shade size generally refers to the bottom diameter, so if the old shade has a width across the bottom of 14 inches, look for a 14-inch shade. If you don’t have the old shade to take measurements, measure the distance between the top of the lamp’s harp and the bottom of the socket that holds the bulb, recommend the lamp shade experts at Brown’s Lampshades.
