If the enlargement results in the hearts inability to pump blood normally, this can result in congestive heart failure which can lead to death. An enlarged heart should be taken vary seriously. Symptoms of an enlarged heart include leg swelling, weight gain, fatigue, shortness of breath and increased abdominal girth. Treatment for the issue depends on the condition that is causing it.
