Does Medicare assist with hearing aid expenses?

Medicare does not assist with hearing aid expenses, nor does it cover routine hearing exams, hearing aids or exams in order to fit hearing aids according to Medicare. If a doctor orders diagnostic hearing and balance exams to see if a patient needs medical treatment, these are covered by Medicare.
For routine exams and hearing aids, since they are not covered, an individual needing them must pay 100 percent of the cost, states the Medicare website. For covered physician-ordered exams, the Medicare recipient is responsible for 20 percent of the Medicare-approved amount, and the deductible also applies. If the exams are done in a hospital outpatient setting, a copayment is also required.
