Does Medicare cover dental procedures?

In the majority of cases, under Medicare Part A, Medicare does not provide any coverage for dental procedures. The only coverage that may be available through Medicare is for dental procedures that are performed while a patient is hospitalized on an inpatient basis.

An example of a dental procedure that may be covered under Medicare is the reconstruction of the jaw or mouth due to an accident or trauma. Extractions that are done in order for a patient to receive radiation associated with disease of the jaw may also be covered.

Medicare does not pay for routine dental care such as cleanings, x-rays, dental devises, tooth extractions or fillings. Dentures are also not covered by Medicare.
