The melting point of t-Butyl alcohol is 25.3 degrees Celsius (77.54 degrees Fahrenheit). The boiling point is 82.2 degrees Celsius (179.96 degrees Fahrenheit). The compound is also called tert-Butyl alcohol or tert-Butanol and has the chemical formula C4H10O.

Though classified as highly flammable and harmful to humans because it has a negative effect on reproductive health, causes tumors and irritates human tissue when the concentration is high, t-Butyl alcohol still has practical applications. It is used as an octane booster in gasoline, in flavors and perfumes, as a solvent and as a dehydrating agent when methyl methacrylate is manufactured. Methyl methacrylate is used to create many resins and plastics.
