What is a Mendelian trait?

A Mendelian trait is a trait that is controlled by one locus and gives or shows a simple Mendelian inheritance pattern. There are a plethora of human traits that apply to this designation.

Mendelian inheritance, which is also referred to as Mendelian genetics or Mendelism, is a description of science that explains how characteristics that are hereditary are handed down from parents to their offspring. Mendel felt that there were two types of traits, recessive and dominant, which were controlled by a single gene. Some examples of these traits include a cleft chin, dimples, freckles or whether an earlobe is attached or not.
