One of the most memorable metaphors in the "I Have a Dream" speech is when Martin Luther King, Jr. compared the the lack of civil rights to banking. In this metaphor, he notes that the marchers have a check to cash but it's one with insufficient funds.
In addition to the banking metaphor, King used a metaphor to compare drinking a liquid to taking in different opinions and attitudes. One of his most famous lines, "Let us not seek to satisfy our thirst for freedom by drinking from the cup of bitterness and hatred," refers to the political actions of some leaders at the time.
