Metastatic melanoma is skin cancer that has spread to other parts of the body, notes WebMD. Typically, metastatic melanoma indicates the cancer is in the late stages.
When melanoma begins to spread, it often moves to the brain, the liver, the lungs and the bones. In some cases, an afflicted person does not experience symptoms of melanoma until it has metastasize, as stated by the Melanoma Research Foundation. The symptoms that occur afterwards depends on where the cancer has spread. When melanoma begins to spread to other parts of the body and the organs, treatment is more difficult and a cure may not be available.
