Why do meteorologists use the station models?

According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, meteorologists employ the station model to estimate the behavior of the atmosphere across large tracts of land. By assuming that the data at each point is continuous with data from all the other points, a general map can be made.

The information by the NOAA describes the visualization of large amounts of numeric data, making it much easier and much faster to understand the present atmospheric conditions in order to predict future atmospheric conditions. These sorts of station plots allow meteorologists to quickly respond to changes in wind, temperature, weather, dew point, sky cover, sea-level pressure and pressure trends.
