Each mineral in the native elements group is composed of just one element. Graphite is made up entirely of carbon and has the same chemical composition of diamond but differs in its molecular structure. Graphite is found worldwide, is often mined in vast quantities, and is usually found in metamorphic rocks. It is notable for being the only common nonmetal that is a good conductor of electricity but also has nonmetallic properties such as inertness and high thermal resistance.
