What minerals make up granite?

Minerals that make up granite are quartz, potassic feldspars such as orthoclase and microcline, plagioclase, and mica. Minerals that are often found in granite but aren't necessary for it to be granite are apatite, pyrite, magnetite, zircon and tourmaline. Accidental minerals found in granite are muscovite mica, garnet and pyroxine.

Granite is an intrusive, igneous rock. This means it was formed out of magma deep in the Earth and gradually, over millions of years, made its way to the surface. It is prized for being both beautiful and very tough and comes in a variety of colors such as white, light gray, pink, yellow and even violet.
