What is miniature livestock?

Miniature livestock are much smaller versions of animals usually bred as livestock, such as cattle, chickens, sheep and horses. They are half to one-third the size of their more standard bred relatives and are largely grown for hobby farms.

Most miniature cows weigh under 600 pounds and are less than 42 inches tall at the hip. The milk of a miniature cow produces the same products as a full-sized cow.

Bantams are chickens that are half the size of standard chickens. Lots of standard breeds have bantams, though a few breeds, such as the Sebright, are "true" bantams without a standard-sized equivalent.
