The National Conference of State Legislatures lists Michigan's 2014 minimum wage as $8.15. The wage increases to $8.50 on Jan. 1, 2016, to $8.90 on Jan. 1, 2017 and to $9.25 on Jan. 1, 2018. Further increases, beginning Jan. 1, 2019, are linked to the Consumer Price Index.

Legislation in Michigan prevents the indexed increases beginning in 2019 from exceeding 3.5 percent; however, as of 2014, Michigan's minimum wage is higher than the federal minimum wage of $7.25, states the National Conference of State Legislatures. Michigan joins 22 other states and the District of Columbia in having a higher minimum wage than the federal minimum.
