Comprised of a diverse group of about 1,300 members, the American Association for Hand Surgery includes general surgeons, plastic surgeons, orthopedic surgeons and microsurgeons, along with basic scientists, hand therapists and nurses. The association began in 1970 by a group of American and Canadian hand surgeons who wanted to provide education and increase the knowledge of doctors involved in hand surgery, explains the American Association for Hand Surgery website.
