The two words "mold" and "fungus" are often used interchangeably, but mold is a type of fungus. There are thousands of types of mold found mostly in water-damaged, damp or high-humidity areas. Mold can be found indoors as well as outdoors.
Mold produces tiny spores that can become airborne, waterborne or insect-borne. Some types of mold also produce micro toxins. Some spores and micro toxins can have negative effects on humans. These include but are not limited to allergies, asthma, sinusitis or other respiratory conditions. People with a weakened immune system are especially at risk for these complications from exposure to mold.
