Why does morning urine smell stronger than urine later in the day?

Urine normally smells stronger in the morning because it becomes more concentrated when the body is at rest, explains Mayo Clinic News Network. However, if the urine emits a foul odor or is accompanied by burning and urinary urgency, this can indicate a urinary tract infection that requires medical treatment.
Additional factors that can cause urine to smell strong include foods such as asparagus, onions and garlic, explains Healthline. Dark urine that smells like ammonia may indicate dehydration. Dehydration can often be remedied with increased fluid intake, but it is important to seek medical treatment if symptoms are accompanied by severe tiredness, weakness or concentration difficulties.
