A mother daughter home, officially known as an accessory apartment or an in-law apartment, is a single family home sometimes having extra kitchens and bathrooms that must be rented to blood relations. These homes require special permits with costs that may go up to $250, as of 2015.

A mother daughter home is a free flow home without any separation between the two units. This kind of home doesn't really add anything to the monetary value of a home. Further, the permits are not transferable once the house is sold. However, experts agree that accessory apartments are an important part of the real estate scenario.
