What is motorcycle hill climbing?

Motorcycle hill climbing is a sport in which motorcycle riders race for the best times on tracks that run up steep slopes, with finish lines at the top of the slopes. Competitions exist for amateur, semi-pro and professional riders.

The uphill trail is a grueling test of both the rider and the motorcycle. Riders usually modify hill-climbing motorcycles with significantly extended rear forks and wheels to provide extra balance and keep the machine from flipping over backward.

The American Motorcycle Association is one of the major organizations holding regular hill-climbing championship races. Organizers usually divide races into classes that separate competitors by engine size.
